Welcome to Upminster u3a
The u3a is a thriving mutual self help educational, creative and leisure activity movement for people no longer in full time employment. There are no obstacles to joining, no qualifications are needed and no exams are held.
Although Upminster is located in Essex, it is also part of the London Borough of Havering, so we have the benefit of the countryside and the bright lights. Our u3a was founded in 2016 and has grown rapidly to over 600 members and over 50 interest groups. It’s easy to join; there are no age restrictions, nor do you need any special qualifications!
We are all volunteers and share the benefits of the various groups, which are set up and run by members, for members. Apart from the interest groups, we run social events and coach excursions for members and hold regular meetings.
If you want to make new friends, learn new skills or polish those long-forgotten hobbies, then come along and meet us at one of our monthly meetings in the New Windmill Hall (please bring your own cup for tea; we’re trying to be environmentally aware).
To find out more about particular activities or groups, please go to the Groups section to contact the relevant Group Leader.
Monthly Meetings
We normally hold our monthly meetings on the third Tuesday of each month at the New Windmill Hall.
Meetings start with a few words from our chairman, followed by a main, and often a second speaker.
We serve tea and biscuits and in order to support the environment please bring your own cup.
Doors open at 1:00pm for a 1:30pm start.
