Aim of this group is to improve knowledge of many of London's wonderful buildings and sites and their history.
We visit historic buildings usually with a guide, but sometimes undertake self guided walks. We normally meet at Upminster Station.

Possible Visit Locations with guided tours

  • Apsley House, including Wellington Arch - Home of the Duke of Wellington.
  • British Library
  • Carpenters’ Livery Company - Originally responsible for all the many timber-framed buildings in the City.
  • Fulham Palace - Once home to the Bishops of London. House and Garden tours available.
  • Houses of Parliament - If you haven’t taken the tour, you should, and it’s free!
  • Lambeth Palace - The London home of the Archbishop of Canterbury. Awaiting confirmation as to if/when during 2026 tours will be recommenced after refurbishment.
  • Lloyds Register - Not Lloyds of London. Currently under refurbishment, tour dates awaited as at March 2026.
  • Mansion House
  • Mansion House Art Tour - Which also enables you to see much of the Mansion House. I’m pretty much an art philistine, but I found it a very interesting tour.
  • St. Paul’s Cathedral

City Guided Walks

As quite a number of you will know, these walks started in the summer, and were much enjoyed, I think it is true to say, by the almost 250 people that went on them. So, I plan to include more of these, starting in the spring; which ones I do not yet know.
